Orchid Society of Pakistan

About us

In the year 1997 on the 4th of January some senior members of the Horticultural Society of Pakistan who were growing orchids in their homes felt it was time to initiate the promotion and cultivation of orchids in Pakistan.

Therefore on this day the Orchid Society of Pakistan was constituted and came into being.

Present in this meeting were the following :
Mr. A. K. Khan, Mr. Faiz Abdul Ali, Mr. Darius Kandawalla, Mrs. Zainy Fancy, Mrs. Sutana Anwarali, Mrs. Dilshad Irani, Mr. Younus Dada, Mr. Salman Khan, Mr. Sohair Irani, Mr. Rizwan Hussain, Ms. Sakina Karamaly, Mr. Yameen, Mrs. Saba Obaid, and S. Abu Khalid.

Mr. A. K. Khan Presided over the meeting and Mr. Faiz Abdul Ali co-hosted the same. It was decided at this meeting that there was need to form an Orchid Society in Pakistan in view of the growing interest in this field. Mr. A. K. Khan suggested that a convenor be appointed at this meeting. Mrs. Zainy Fancy was unanimously selected for this post. Five people were nominated for the committee.

Mr. Darius Kandawalla took over as the President from Zainy Fancy at the end of 2002 for a period of two years.

At the 2004 annual General Meeting, elections were held to elect office bearers for the next two years. The following were elected for the year 2004 - 2006.
